Review Edison Hotel

Good location, but rooms need updated

 2/5

Review by: , indianapolis, United States

Stayed: Jul 2008

I couldn't believe that we were 1/2 block from time square when we arrived. The lobby is nice, but the restaurant off the lobby reminded me of an old diner that needed remodeled in the 80's. The bed was small and had old blankets and the room was also small. I could touch all four walls of the bathroom if i stood next to the tub. Good price and location, but don't expect a 3-4 star room. I would give the room 2 stars, the lobby 4, the restaurant 2 (just from the looks, we didn't eat there), and overall a 2.5.

Hotel Edison was a fine family hotel

We were surprised at the high cost of NY hotels, but--as a reasonable place to base a family visit--we would recommend this hotel. Staff members, from the front desk clerk to the housecleaning staff--were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable (bathroom was small but adequate). The location was ideal; we did not try the hotel restaurants, but found good places to eat nearby. The hotel was just as previous reviewers had described. Thanks

Great Location - Room Terrible

 2/5

Review by: , Poway, United States

Stayed: Jun 2008

The best part about the hotel is its location. It is in the heart of the Theatre District. The lobby is nice looking, but the rooms are lacking. Very old. We asked for a queen and got a double, which sagged toward the middle. The accoutrements were more like a Motel 6. Plastic cups, vey small soaps and not much room. But we could not have asked for a better location.

Reasonable Lodging next door to Times Square

 3/5

Review by: , Quincy, United States

Stayed: May 2008

Hotel Edison did the trick, and I'd stay there again if I can get such a great again compared to other NYC hotels. It's a stones throw from Times Square! Service was adequate, although not overly attentive. Rates were good for NYC. Sadly, no overpriced snacks available for purchase in room. Rooms were clean. But, it's an old hotel, so don't expect gleaming accomodations . Lacked some of the amenities that people, especially those traveling for business or those staying for awhile, enjoy, like a coffee brewer in the room and an icebucket. Hallways were kinda dark.

It was ok..

Well.. it started with the hotel staff saying they didn't have our booking. They kept a credit card print although I'd already paid in full with Skoosh. I was tired after a long flight so agreed to put my card detail hoping that they would sort it out by the next day and will not charge us. The next morning while checking out, they notified us that they'd already charged us. We'd have to resolve the matter with Skoosh.
As far as the hotel goes, it's very basic. A bit smelly in corridors and rooms. The location is great if you want to do the touristy things as it's very near time square.

The hotel has a GREAT location, next door to the W Times Sq and behind the Paramount...but boy, don't think it's had a penny spent on it in 40 years!!

Tired, old and full of package tourists... But clean and everythink worked.

Enjoy!

Nice Location in NYC Times Square

 3/5

Review by: , East Stroudsburg, United States

Stayed: Mar 2008

The location was great. The price was reasonable for such a convienent location. Service was a little lacking. We called housekeeping for extra blankets but were not receiving an answer. Called the front desk next who put us back through to housekeeping, who again was not answering. After several attempts I contacted the front desk to display my frustration. All of a sudden housekeeping answers the phone... I feel that I should not have had to get very assertive to simply get blankets but that was the impression that I got. No actions was taken until I called several times and expressed frustration in my voice. My take on this hotel is that they mainly deal with tourists from out of the area so there is not need to please the customer since they are most likely not to return back to the same location.. What can one expect though...
