I would recommend it to youngsters, who expect nothing more but a hostel. I got exactly what I expected, a very basic, but clean room and a clean bathroom. The staff was fine too. Good location also, 5 minutes from subway.

it's very bed and small.
the dirtiest is they will change your ordered room.
double beds room become one bed room.
not only my friend and I but also the other people. Almost all the people will meet this problems.

I would not recommend the Widget to anyone. My expectations were not met and when I complained they did not offer to let me check out early. Do not go to the Widget Hotel! It was very disapointing and a dreadful value.

The hotel is nice.... The personal was kind...
The room is what u pay for... small... and it has a bed, tv and a wardrobe... The showers were clean... and the place is safe...They have also internet stattions...
But, it is close to the subway....
I liked it....although it is just a simple room...
I suppose that u don't come to NY in order to stay in the room, but just to have a place to sleep in the night.
So it does the job...

The only good thing about this hostel was it's location. 2 block from subway station, few minutes to Times Square makes it a perfect location fir visiting NYC. Good, safe neighbourhood. No parking however, so better don't bring your car with you.
The room was a disaster. I understand that it's NYC and didn't expect much for the price (although pretty high), but at least I would like to be able to turn around in my room, but there was only room for bunk beds and a mirror. NOTHING else. There was only one shared bathroom per whole room section (10 room or so), which made it very hard to take a shower.
Front desk service - OK. Lockers in the basement - nice thing, but expensive and one use only - every time you open them you have to pay for a whole day.

We got used to it. But in the beginning it was unpleasant to see from time to time coakroaches on the wall.
Despite the coakroaches (we saw 3 or 4 of them in 12 days in the room) we don't regret because for this price, everything else is manhattan is worse. For the rest is was ok. Clean, quiet and very well comnunicated. We suggest the hotel staff not to leave duplicate keys to people who ask for them without first checking the identity of those people.

The Good:
Pleasant and helpful staff.
Good location.
Inexpensive (for Manhattan)
Shared shower/toilet was cleaned daily and was only shared between 5 rooms.

The Bad:
Very small room - 2x3 meters
Room was not in great condition
Bunk bed was very wobbly.

The Ugly:

Mattresses were awful. So soft that practically wrapped around you. We both got sore backs. After the second night I couldn't stand it anymore and bought a thermarest inflatable matress and slept on the floor instead.

I would recommend this to others traveling on a budget. This is a great price for airconditioned, clean rooms. Bathrooms are also very clean. They have huge lockers downstairs in case you want your stuff in there but we left everything in our room. They clean the rooms when you leave so we were never "interupted" if you know what I mean. Good location, a little far from central park but close to the subway on 96th. 1,2,3 train.

While I guess you could say my standards are low. (backpacker standards). I still thought that the continental wasn't nearly as bad as everyone put it. Also people said that Kia was mean and unhospitable, but she was pretty helpful to me. Its not hotel standards but it was ok for a few nights.

I certainly wasn't expecting the ritz. but when we arrived in our room we had bunk beds. unexpected twist for a couple who never gets to see each other. but we thought it was funny did a little remodeling and everything was fine. the shared facilities worked out fine, since you can use any of the 6 avaiable per floor. The point of visiting NYC isn't to be in a hotel, so why waste money on something you'll barely use. a great neighborhood and a very secure building. overall a very positive experience. I would deffinately recomend calling the day of your arrival to double check they have you scheduled. The front desk seemed to have a few issues with that for quite a few other guests. Though they were booked, they were able to honor everyone's reservations by sending them off to another nearby hostel, with complimentary taxi ride.
