Lobby in need of serious updating. Looking at the lobby one felt that the rooms would be very dirty. However, the rooms appeared to be clean. The staff was extremely helpful. Nice to have a breakfast which was nice. Breakfast room however was very dingy and gave the appearance again of being dirty. Good location.

-Elevator is a small service elevator that took several minutes to travel 5 floors. -Rooms were poorly constructed and had distinctive odor -We were solicitide by prositutes that were currently living in rooms on the 7th floor. -Breakfast, was poor at best -Drunks and homeless were located on the corner in the daytime and evening.

Well, for the money we paid i felt like the room was a little under-refurbished but it ticks all the boxes - central loction, near 42nd street metro station, free local calls, good breakfast buffet (bagels, donuts, fruit and juice), clean, air conditioning. Just don't come with illusions of grandeur - there is a flickering neon hotel sign, a yellow rim around the shower plughole (due to age more than lack of cleaning), and the bed was a little too soft but overall - we were in New York so a bedroom is really just for sleeping in a city that never sleeps so you can live without the marble sink and fresh wallpaper.

Low Budget = Low Quality at the Regency

I had heard the stories about hotels in Manhatten being over priced and under quality and the Regency takes the cake. The room had broken AC, broken over head light, broken/squeaky bed, stains on the sheets, mold in the shower, the toilet ran non-stop, etc. The window AC unit was surrounded by thin fiber board and held in place with duct tape, which made the noise from the street even louder than normal. The alarm clock had a night light on it that wouldn't turn off if you set the alarm. We covered the clock with a dark t-shirt because the light was so bright we couldn't sleep. The shower was the WORST part. The water alternated from scalding hot to freezing cold every 10 seconds - making it impossible to have a decent shower. When we complained the manager he said it would be fixed but it never happend!
