Review Ymca Vanderbilt

Good value, clean and safe hostel in a great location.

We had some trouble on arrival when the hostel tried to give us a room with bunk beds when I had booked a room with a double bed. One of the check in staff was very rude to us but everyone else was helpful.

After contacting Skoosh they sorted everything out and we were given a room with a double bed, single bed, fridge and aircon. Although the funiture was a bit old it was all very clean with a daily maid service. Bathrooms were also clean, I never had to wait for a shower.

There is 24 hour security who will always make you show your room key when coming back at night. Hotel is only 5-10mins walk from Grand Central Station.

It's not the Plaza-- but you're not paying for the Plaza. It was clean, quiet and in a safe neighborhood. The shared bathroom facilities were clean and I never had to wait. The location is perfect-- easy walking distance to many sights. A great value if you need a place to sleep and shower while you're in the city.

Great Inexpensive NY Find

As long as you can put up with a shared bathroom, it's a great stay. The facilities were clean, quiet and comfortable and its location is hard to beat.

Paid for what I got

I would recommend this to others who are on a VERY limited budget. Since this is a YMCA, they had a lot of facilities beyond just the small room. There wasn't anything in the room besides a bed, desk, fridge, & TV (shared bathroom on the floor). They also check to make sure you have a key and don't allow any guests.

it was a clean and friendly place located in midtown - perfect for walking around town. not the cheapest for solo travellers but well worth it as you get your own room, desk and fridge. could sign in for one and get two in a single bed!

Excelent Location

I higly recomend this hotel because of his price and location. Your are host in the middel of Manhatan for and amazily price. Be aware that it's not a real hotel, is something beetwen a hotel and a hostal, but still really friendly stuff.
The only negative thing I would say is that rooms quite small. That's way they have this kind of bed, but still, I you go into such a grat city you shouldn't spend to much time in a hotel.
Resuming, I really good optin for low price and gret location

Vanderbilt YMCA

Small room. Not worth the price. Bunk bed has plastic noisy uncomfortable mattress with cheap bedding. Mattress cover does not even fit right. Barely able to move around room due to small size.. TV ok. Shared bathroom ok but shower area terrible. I am surprised that they don't check the drainage and fix it. Water in shower does not drain right and almost ran out to corridor!!! Would not recommend this place to stay unless you are looking for an extreme budget place with a gym. More of a dormitory setting. Neighborhood ok (near UN Building on East Side of NYC). Hopefully this is helpful but would pay more to stay at a better place.

Hi, the hotel was a very good value for money. The hotel did fullfill my expectations better than I did expect-great location, clean room, and I did feel very safe there. The personnel was very polite.

Location - excellent, in the hart of Midtown, 3rd Ave and 47th St is busy at night, big police presence, feels safe to return at night to the hotel.
Room - similar to prison cell in size, but adequate to spend a night. Big problem with noise, window has an air conditioning unit stuck in it. Most of the rooms have windows facing other wing of the hotel with 10 floors of windows with noisy A/C units. Noise is amplified by the building well. Door locks are noisy too. It is impossible to close the door without slamming it. When your neighbors are using the door at night (to go to the bathroom, which is NOT in the room) You will be noisily notified about it.
Bed mattress has a consistency of a concrete slab but I found no bed lice or cockroaches.
Conclusion - good value for the money.
